I have to say excellent style, remember the forgotten and elaborate on it. So now I’m hooked after hearing it for the first time at the Kinzie Corridor art expo. To say the least your mixes are a gem. As someone that’s into Latin American cultural studies and world music, kudos for sampling all of that vibrant music.
Joe Bryl here (past co-owner of Sonotheque). I know that you’re also involved with Ed at Maria’s. I’m starting a new weekly world music residency there every Wednesday starting December called ‘Global Soul’. I’ll have a guest(s) every week with me showcasing different styles of world rhythms. The range will be very wide and the participants have complete freedom. It doesn’t have to be dance themed; it’s more like a listening lounge.
So far I have Tony Sarabia (WBEZ), Peter Margasak (Chicago Reader), Brian Keigher (Chicago World Music Festival) & Frank Orral (Poi Dog Pondering).
I’d like to know if you’d like to participate in January 2011. I can be reached at the email above or at 312.493.5807. Thanks.
I just moved to Chicago from Chile (Im Ecuadorian and a globe-trotter) and so glad to find out that there are peeps with similar musical appreciations in this city, and are doing something about it. Im constantly checking the events page but if you have any other pointers as to magazines, blogs, websites that promote events like the one’s you organize please let me know. Hope to see you guys live soon,
